Lightbulb How about a game that takes place in Real Time for a change ? ...

" Fourty Eight Hours in Shanghai " ... this is what all the previews said about Dog Days' storyline , now i ask , what if the gameplay itself takes place in real time during these fourty eight hours ? ...

The game doesn't have to last fourty eight hours , they could take some hours off when Lynch goes to sleep , or when gets knocked out , etc ...

But imagine , a bus only comes at a specific time , if you miss it you have to run like hell to your destination or change your objective completely , and by the end of the game depending on the timing of your actions you'll get a different ending ...

Could this be a interesting concept for a game like Kane & Lynch ? ...

PS : This topic's idea is the result of a insane conversation from another topic , proving how difficult it is to find something worth talking about these days ...

Seriously, I wish they'd throw us a bone and release some information. Leak a gameplay video, something!

But yes, considering the premise of Dog Days, a system such as this could work really well.

My theory is that they're going to do something like "24" where each hour or two hour scene is broken into an entire level. All in all I think it will feel much longer than the time represented.

It would not fit the gameplay. Judging by your other thread about a sence of urgency, i highly doubt we would get that sence by sprinting for our lives being chased by chinese police to hop onto a bus.

I think they will go back into old school roots.

I'd love to see Kane and Lynch be the next Super Mario. It fits well into the 2D world.

    Just my 2 cents.

This could work really well. I was unsure about the whole 2 days thing but maybe it can work. Will have to wait and see though.

I got a feeling that the 2 days is ONLY for the Shanghai levels, the other levels (if there is) are based in different countries.

    Just be 2 pennies.

Would've been awesome if the game was held in a major city like New York for example.

I wouldn't say I dislike it but if I had to choose a city it would've been New York. Apart from my that, Shanghai should be an interesting location.

We've seen enough versions of New York in video games , why not Shanghai ... or Sydney for a change ? ...

I agree, i am bored of being in America. Or maybe Las Vegas atleast? Plenty of corruption and gangs.

    Unhappy

Yeah , still waiting for " This is Vegas " ...
Though i get the impression it's a dead game ...

I like your idea and im sure the game will run in real time (not neccesarily esactly 48 hours..but the time set will be the same. The bus idea while dynamic..I wouldn't expect it to happen..especially for this type of game. This supose to be die hard 3? lol.

    Big Grin

The bus idea was just a placeholder example , i didn't expect it to cause so much controversy , lol ...

I've always had a sick fantasy for an open world or some what open-ended K&L game. To be done in real time would be tricky, and in this game there would have to be a lot of locations (buildings, districts, etc) that you could go to, some could trigger events, but you don't want to be fighting hordes of guys 24/2, that would get silly after a while. By that point you've killed the whole damn syndicate. Finding something to break up the action would be hard to do, so I see it this way.

You and Kane start off meet and greet style (preferably hive fives and fist bumps) and you two would go eat at a diner. You'll be ambushed and then you'll escape, that's where it will kick off from there. Now there are about four things I think I would have that would be reminiscent of other games, money that can be used at a gunstore (Lynch is into arms dealing now right, so he should know some "stores"), I would have a heat meter and a notoriety meter (kinda like saints row's), and hideouts. So once you've broken free of the action you need to keep your eye's peeled. It will be about survival from there on out.

And before I kick this off, yes I would have hit areas on your character. So say me and Kane just had a nasty shoot out, and we need to go get to my woman! So we start making our way down alleys, market districts, etc, and we get picked out by triads or whoever (there would be groups of men hunting you all over the city) and they start unloading on us. Say I (Lynch) get tagged in the leg, and I dive into cover along side Kane behind some market table, and we start to fire back. We finish off that group and we need to get going because more of them and law enforcement are on the way.

So say me and Kane we cut trough a big restaurant/club/casino deal and I'm limping, in single player Kane could grab you and hold you up to help you move faster but you would be in control, in multiplayer your buddy would be moving you along. However we're wanting to survive, I need to get fixed up, and we have no cash, so I think a feature to where you could rob restaurants, stores, etc, would help bring out the old thieves in them. So say me and Kane, now have cash, we have notoriety, and popo are looking for us. With our cash we can check into a hotel (a hideout) for a little bit to help me get fixed up and lose our wanted levels.

So we leave and we're back on track however not only would I have groups of men hunting you, but well trained assassins , this would be the ultimate mind f. You could be randomly shot at, grabbed and attacked, the assassins would be much harder to shake if you were trying to run from them. Now this is an iffy but I totally think that K&L should have some sort of melee system, I mean if I run out of bullets, what good is my gun? It's tooth and nail from there, and of course you could pick up enemies weapons, but man I would love to see Kane and Lynch punk an assassin! But while you're doing all this you still have objectives to accomplish, like reaching Lynch's woman, that would start a mission and so on.

So let's say we're online and Bevacur is my homeboy, he's Kane and we're strolling through a market district there's AI moving all over, I'm trying to look around for enemies, and out of nowhere I start getting shot at. Bullets are flying, people are dropping/running, crates and antiques are breaking, I'm Lying on the ground with no weapon, and Bevacur is taking cover however he's unarmed as well. Say the assassin is reloading or out of ammo and Bevacur rushes his ass and starts beating on him, well compared to normal thugs or cops these guys would be mean in hand to hand combat. So while they're trading blows, throwing each other, I could be crawling towards them.
Now as the assassins distracted with Bevacur I could crawl over to him and grab his (the more animations the better, helps break up repetitive visuals) leg, bite it, grab his coat, pull him down, etc, and Bevacur could break his neck, stomp him out, pushblade his face, and so on.

Well I have a lot more ideas but I'll take a break for now.

    Don't know what you're talking about One of Seven, sounds exciting;
About the real time thingy, what if the camera had a battery life?
Every mission could start with full battery, and while playing it start to run out; when it's low the vision gets all distorted, and the more hits you take, the faster it runs out. This way you have an incentive to keep on going, and at the same time, to use cover whenever you can.

Okay, so let me help you understand because it's not hard. If you were to have real time, to have it in a game like Kane and Lynch would be "tricky". Would you be running through linear levels/areas over and over, or would you be in an open world? Well if you choose either one would you have it set up to where you're just constantly being attacked, all while trying to keep that cinematic feel? The things I listed were my ideas for an open world, real time Kane and Lynch game.

I tried to explain things with examples hence "So say".

yeah, thanks, but as much as I like open world games, I think K&L is not there yet; while IO games have always big open maps, usually they are single settings, doing a whole city GTA style goes with a bag of problems on its own.

So, even arguing for a full real time game, I'd stay with linear levels; but considering that doing such a thing means starting from scratch building a game around that feature, I was proposing the thing in the post above.

Anyway, I'd like a better close combat too, maybe without bites, but hitting people with your gun (just like in the beginning of K&L); and the helping out your mate carring him around is a nice thing too.

That said , i would like to see IO making a open world game , someday (preferably in this decade , i'm getting impatient already) ...

But not a MMO though , their games have always been too ... personal ...

I think that Mini Ninjas would be perfect for it, the enviorment is not full of little details as a large city could be, and you can create a better natual landscape this way; assaulting samurai patrols is the most fun thing by itself, that and discovering hidden things. The story wasn't that complex that it would be lost in the open world...
