    Game Chat: Music musings

Ben Bateman: "Music scores are arguably one of the most important, but most overlooked components of a video game. Often overshadowed by sharp visuals and complex gameplay mechanics, we find ourselves totally immersed.

We're pretty lucky at Square Enix when it comes to video game music. We've had over 25 years of beautiful Final Fantasy tracks at the hands of talented composers like Nobuo Uematsu and*Masashi Hamauzu. Similarly, Tomb Raider is receiving the five star treatment thanks to BAFTA-winning composer*Jason Graves, who's at*the helm.

As one of the distinguishing qualities of a Square Enix game it's only natural that we celebrate it. As many of you are already aware the Distant Worlds concert travels the globe, bringing nostalgia to thousands of gamers, under the expert guidance of conductor Arnie Roth. But that's not the only concert currently in production that puts video game music upon its rightful*pedestal.

Final Symphony - another celebration of Final Fantasy music - is coming to London in May. And hands-up here if you're heading to the*Zelda Symphony, also*in May?

It's also nice that we're starting to see video game music slowly transcend to the realm of mainstream recognition. Take for instance the campaign to get video game music into the Classic FM Hall of Fame. Have you voted yet?

Anyway - the savvy readers among you will have no doubt guessed that this week's theme is all about video game music.

<ul>[*]What's your favourite music track from a Square Enix game and a non-Square Enix game?[*]Have you been to a video game concert? What did you like about it and what did you want to see improved?[*]If you could have a concert to celebrate the music of any game, which would it be?[/list]

As always, share your opinions with us in the comments. Feel free to discuss the topic and engage with each other&rsquo;s ideas - but please be nice; there are no wrong answers."

The solo piano concert takes place on February 19 at MASP, with free entry

The pianist Hiroyuki Nakayama arrives in Brazil for unique presentation of PIANO OPERA FINAL FANTASY, on February 19 at 20h, in the Grande Auditório of MASP in São Paulo. One of the leading names in the World Game Music, Nakayama is a performer and arranger of music tracks from games like "Blue Dragon" and "Lost Odyssey", for Xbox360, "Final Fantasy", for Nintendo DS, and musical recordings as CDs "OPERA PIANO FINAL FANTASY I, II, III "and" IV, V, VI, "" Final Fantasy Orchestra Album "," Piano Collections Kingdom Hearts "and" Guin Saga ".

The repertoire compositions present in the album PIANO OPERA FINAL FANTASY I to VI, launched from 2012, as part of celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the series of games. The albums, with arrangements and execution Nakayama, were all composed by Nobuo Uematsu, recognized worldwide as the most important composer of game music nowadays.

For a game producer and game designer Adriana Kei, master teacher of Games Design Course at the University Anhembi Morumbi, Hiroyuki Nakayama is a full artist.

"This pianist has the rare talent to provide us all deep, but sublime interpretation of the works of Nobuo Uematsu. Nakayama transports us to the wealth of detail and grandeur of this unique fantasy universe, and why not, of dreams, of the works of master Uematsu. Vigor and subtlety are noticed from his arrangements in consonance in his performances. He shows us that the work of an artist is the raw material for the talents of another artist, favoring us with the completion of a new and singular work. "

    Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy is one of the games franchise most successful of all time in the history of video games, released on December 18, 1987. Since then, several series have been dropped, always with news. Among fans around the world, there are disagreements about the best launch these almost 20 years. Final Fantasy III, released in 1990, is one of the most famous franchise, having been the first in the series to surpass 1 million copies sold. If nothing else, his 3D remake released in 2006 duplicated the original's success by selling over one million copies. The sales success may be the result of a landmark innovation seen from there, with the possibility of the characters change class at any time to the ability to summon powerful creatures.

Nowdays fans worldwide await the release of Final Fantasy XIII Versus (or Final Fantasy XV).

    More about Hiroyuki Nakayama

Born in Japan and graduated in musical composition by Tokyo University of the Arts, Nakayama executed version of Caprice (Paganini) used in the choreography of figure skater Mao Asada, and has participated in important presentations in partnership with the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra.

In 2010, the year that was awarded the 200th anniversary of Chopin's birth, Nakayama held concerts in Warsaw and Paris, on tour promoted by the Japanese broadcaster NHK. Among his major works in musical arrangements, we highlight the production of the concert "Final Fantasy Orchestra", performed by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in Dvořák Hall in Prague, and the concert "Symphonic Cinema Meets Orchestra", the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra.
